MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) summer camp is a summer camp for kids ages 7-17 afflicted with any form of muscular dystrophy. Some cases barely affect the person while others are required to have a respirator 24/7 to help them breathe. This summer around 15 students from OSSM volunteered to help these kids. The OSSM students assisted in various everyday actions that the kids may have needed help with such as tying shoes, helping them shower, or sometimes just playing in the pool with them. For all of us it was an eyeopening experience to be a part of their lives for at least a week. It gave us a new appreciation for the body we have been given and the tasks that we do without a thought. All while giving us great admiration for the parents that are with these kids 358 days a year while we have fun with them the other 7!
