This summer, I was inspired for no particular reason to draw sketches of endangered species, unheard of animals like the pangolin and more the more commonly-known leopard. I thought it would be a good exercise in mindfulness, by paying attention to the details and environment of each animal. I would post these drawings on Instagram, not really to spread awareness of these animals, but for the more selfish reason of keeping myself accountable to this new habit I was trying to form. Although drawing itself is largely a solitary activity, I found myself engaging in the comments section with people about how they liked the drawings or their requests for future animal features.
Now that I’m back at school, I miss the amount of free time I had to make these drawings, finding every opportunity to doodle only when they apply to my schoolwork or school life. Perhaps these animals I drew over the summer now serve as reminders for me to take time and draw more often. Feel free to take a peek into the zoo of my mind.
