4:04 AM
The AC is as loud and uncooperative as always, and the seemingly constant sound of your roommate’s snoring is still there, but something’s off. You start to shiver.
You aren’t supposed to be up. It’s far too early anyways, especially considering the ungodly hour that you went to bed at—and yet—the hazy glare of your alarm clock reads an ugly 4:05 AM.
4:29 AM
Your roommate lets out a lord snort before turning around in their bed. Absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking—in fact, you’re finding it hard to breath at all. It’s just a mild bit of panic clogging up your lungs: a normal thing, really.
It’s difficult to fall back asleep, though both your body and mind ache for the sweet escape of nothingness. Your eyes dart nervously around the darkened room, almost expecting to see some creature or mysterious shadow to appear. You laugh at your own silliness.
4:54 AM
There it is! That’s what woke you! Footsteps. You instantly relax—it was only the admin doing their rounds. 4:55 may be a bit of an awkward time to do them, but oh well. If only they’d stop walking in circles right outside your door.
5:06 AM
Why won’t they let you go to bed? If only you had a lecture to lull you to sleep. The perpetual scraping sound that they’re producing is a bit unnerving, isn’t it? You really can’t tell if they’re messing with the handle or simply clawing at the door.
5:12 AM
They aren’t stopping. Why can’t your roommate hear this? You try waking up your roommate, but to no avail. Darn them and their fortissimo snores and normal sleep patterns.
5:18 AM
Oh no. Oh no oh no. They’re knocking now. Stop it. They’ll wake everyone else up. What a bother.
5:19 AM
Still. Still knocking. Don’t their knuckles hurt? Aren’t they tired? It’s bedtime. It’s bed-time. It’s bed time. It’s a bad time.
5:19 AM
Their knocks are in sync with your roommate’s analog clock. You start to rock on your bed, keeping beat with both the clock and the knocks. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tockticktocktieaaa---
?:?? AM
The AC is as nice and cooperative as always, and the warm and friendly presence of your roommate is comforting. All is well. The temperature in your room is perfect and you can’t wait to wake up and go to class.
You are asleep now, but you love to wake up early. However, your alarm clock doesn’t work anymore, so I’ll be sure to wake you up properly in the morning. Rest well, okay?
6:45 AM
“Good morning!”
