Calling All Juniors

Calling all juniors! The Echo has experienced it’s first year from humble beginnings and is now expecting a change of leadership as our seniors graduate.

The Echo is a magazine made by OSSM students for OSSM students, and its mission is to provide content insightful and inspiring discussion amongst the student body. Check out the website https://ossmecho.wix.com/echo for examples of our work. We’ve showcased interviews with faculty and professionals in the state, prose, poetry, scientific developments, and simple musings about life in general. Our intent for the next class is to continue this conduit of communication through newer and more exciting ways of creative expression.

There are four main positions on the Echo’s team: the Science Editor, Humanities Editor, Student Life Editor, and Compositor/Media Editor. This year, those positions were filled by me (Maggie), Grant, and Akansha (as SL editor and compositor), respectively. Most writing is done by this core member group, all else is through student submission, survey, or interview. We plan on welcoming the next round of juniors to this team, through the requisites of interest level and writing proficiency. Here are more detailed descriptions of these positions:

Science Editor

  • write, edit, and receive submissions to the Science column

  • writes about students’ involvement in mentorships

  • interviews faculty, professionals, assembly speakers on scientific topics

  • responsible for submitting one article per week in the column

Humanities Editor

  • write, edit, and receive submissions to the Humanities column

  • writes about students’ involvement in fine arts and other creative endeavors

  • interviews faculty, professionals, assembly speakers on the humanities

  • responsible for submitting one article per week in the column

Student Life Editor

  • write, edit, and receive submissions to the Student Life column

  • writes about students’ involvement in school activities and outside

  • interviews students about current school events

  • communicates to student council to provide a monthly “sneak peek”

  • responsible for submitting one article per week in the column

Compositor/Media Editor

  • maintains aesthetic appeal and functionality of website

  • tasked with organizing submissions via echo gmail into google drive

  • schedules pieces from each column every week at designated time

  • schedules pieces on Facebook every week at designated time

  • curates visual media for submissions

Each week’s posts must be submitted by the weekend before the post (we usually posted on Wednesdays), so as to make time for the Media Editor to organize the posts and/or provide media for them. Communication about these logistics occurs via Facebook Messenger group chat.

For now, these four positions are the core group of the Echo; if need be, these positions can be expanded to become more specialized.

If you are at all interested in becoming a member, please see either me, Grant, or Akansha, or email us at ossmecho@gmail.com, and we will be in contact with you shortly! We are all very excited to hand the reigns to you all!

Sincerely,

Maggie, Grant, and Akansha
